Flash pasteurisation is a continuous process where the milk is heated to 72 C for a minimum of 16 seconds and then rapidly cooled to 4 C with the whole process taking approximately 90 seconds. Batch pasteurisation is done in a vessel where the milk must be heated to 65 C, held for 30 minutes and then cooled to 4 C. This process can take hours because all of the milk must be heated, held and cooled before it can be sent to the finished milk tank.
A pasteuriser is required to kill bacteria in the milk. A chiller is required to provide chilled water to the pasteuriser. A milk dispenser is required to sell the milk. A glass bottle dispenser is required to sell glass bottles that the customer will re-use.
Using process water or gas, the system monitors pressure changes within the heat exchanger to identify even the smallest leaks without dismantling the equipment.
